5 TMJ cases stating the initial visit and most recent visit with status

All Cases Were Treated Using A Combination Of:

  • Upper cervical Manipulation
  • TMJ Manipulation
  • Myofascial release Internal and external
  • Ultrasound therapy
  • Russian Stimulation with exercise
  • (some with fitting of an OTC nightguard)
  • Home exercises and home massage techniques

CASE #1

10/23/24

Patient is a 36-year-old female presenting to clinic with neck, upper back and TMJ pain that has been ongoing for a few years. By nature, her job is stressful and finds to hike up her shoulders when on the computer. She denies clenching of her teeth. The patient has had chiropractic care in the past with success. 



11/4/24 (visit 3)

Patient stated that last visit was very successful and since that time she has had minimal discomfort in the TMJ and neck


CASE #2

10/23/24

31-year-old male presents with chief complaint of TMJ dysfunction on the left side. He stated that it began for an unknown reason. He has had tightness, inflammation and pain throughout the left TMJ and surrounding musculature as well as his left side of his face. He has consulted with his primary care physician and dentist and was advised to have a CAT scan and initiated treatment with a chiropractor. He therefore presents to this facility today for further evaluation and treatment.



11/4/24 (treatment is ongoing and immediately following this last visit he had full range of motion and no pain)

patient had short-term relief following last visit but now symptoms are just about where they were when he first started treatment


CASE #3

2/28/24

65-year-old female presents with chief complaint of left sided TMJ with an ear ache. She stated it began in approximately January 2024. She stated that at about that time she had an eye procedure done that required her to wear a pillow like an airplane pillow. From that point on the discomfort started. It interferes with her ability to chew and bite down hard as she stated her teeth no longer meet. She has tried acupuncture and massage therapy which is only offered short-term relief.



11/4/24 (visit 5 with prior visit on 5.15/24)

Patient stated that her TMJ symptoms fully resolved. She is here today with the new complaint of right SI joint discomfort into her hip…


CASE #4

9/18/24

15-year-old male presents with his mother present for chief complaint of TMJ pain and popping particularly on the left side. The patient stated that it began gradually over the past year and has worsened. Generally there is more "annoyance due to the popping" then pain. The patient has consulted with his orthodontist and a warm compress was advised.



10/9/24 (visit 3)

Patient stated he is not having any pain and there is little discomfort in the TMJ he did say that he had an incident while wrestling where his face was pushed into the ground and his jaw locked for a short time but now is okay


CASE #5

10/2/24

36-year-old female presents with left sided TMJ and neck pain. She stated that the pain originates in her neck and jaw and then at times she feels it down the arm. With regard to the TMJ she has consulted with her primary care doctor, multiple dental specialists and underwent physical therapy all with no improvement her condition which began approximately seven years ago. She stated over the past year and 1/2 things have been getting worse and she has episodes where her mouth will get stuck open and at times she is only able to open her mouth one finger height. She has trouble eating.



10/23/24 (visit 3)

Patient stated that she had greater range of motion of the TMJ but felt very sore on the left side afterwards. Generally she feels she is better and is having fewer headaches
