RI Sports Injury Prevention and Chiropractic Care

Most sports injuries can be prevented with proper education. For football players, this becomes vital to the prevention of catastrophic sports injuries while playing the game. Teaching players to keep their head up, and employing various exercises designed to build strength in the neck, shoulder and cervical spine regions, will help to offset many muscle injuries in the neck and spine area.

The best prevention however, is teaching football players how not to block their opponents. The spine falls under a great deal of stress when a football players uses his helmet to block. The spine, surrounding ligaments, and muscles cannot absorb the impact of this kind of use. The helmet should never be the point of contact for any player.

All coaching staff needs to be instructed by a licensed Chiropractor so that they can then instruct the players on the team. In addition to basic body mechanics, every player needs to be instructed in the proper execution of a play. It is not merely about scoring a touchdown, but about protecting the spine while playing as well.

Each team member needs to understand the muscle building and flexibility exercises that need to be done to protect the cervical spine, as well as having properly fitted helmets. Not allowing players to use their heads as a batting ram during plays will significantly reduce both minor and catastrophic sports injuries for all football teams in RI.
